Above all, golf is history; it is a game with a rich past that dates back to the pastime of English aristocrats on a perfectly trimmed lawn in front of the Scottish castle of Ardgowan. The first woman golfer is believed to be Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots. In the twentieth century, golf traveled as far as the Moon! In February 1971, Alan Shepherd, the captain of the Apollo 14 spacecraft, shot two balls. In 1974, the putter used by Alan when playing in space was donated to a museum.

The Derby – of course, horse racing as a gambling pastime and sport existed for centuries before St Leger. It quickly turned from popular entertainment into a pastime for the British aristocracy, who spent a lot of money and effort on breeding a special breed of fast-footed horses, the English racehorse. In England itself, horse racing successfully competes even with football. Races at British racecourses are held every day and draw huge crowds. At some races only admission tickets are sold up to 200 thousand and the total betting is often more than $ 150 million. The winnings at horse races are not insignificant either, as they are directly related to the total betting volume. Major events such as Ascot are traditionally attended by the Queen of England, whose carriage makes a lap of honour around the racetrack before the start of the race.

Football is most popular with foreign spectators. Britons have a reputation for being crazy about sports. In fact, they are more fond of watching someone play a sport than doing it themselves. Brits are spectators, and the most entertaining sports are cricket and football. Football is the most popular game. Football is the model of the professional game. Football was first played in Britain and later people started playing football in other countries.

There are many amateur footballers in Britain who play on Saturdays and Sundays. Amateur clubs often play against professional clubs. Almost every school has a football team and every boy in Britain knows a lot about football. English premiership games consistently attract a lot of attention, at home and around the world. You can cheer for your favourite team in just about any pub, but for the real football aficionado, I’d recommend visiting a Premier League game at the stadium.

At polo, you not only need a substantial bank account to play polo (player’s equipment costs thousands of pounds), you also need to be an aristocrat in spirit. Horse polo is probably the oldest ball game in the world. It’s been around since the Persians five centuries before Christ. The most comfortable surface for the game is grass, which is why summer competitions are held more often. The Queen’s Cup and Cartier Cup, prestigious world championships in England, are held in summer. They are held under the tacit patronage of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. The Queen traditionally attends the Cartier Cup. Prince Charles of Wales is also considered a good player. His personal handicap is two. This, although less than Churchill’s, is still significant. In recent years, Prince Charles has only taken part in charity matches.

The culture and history of the United Kingdom can be combined with a ski holiday in the resorts of the UK and Scotland. Nevis Range is one of the most modern and best ski resorts in the UK and is well known by ski enthusiasts all over the world. Nevis Range ski resort is located in the western Scottish Lochaber area on the slopes of Aonach Mor. Not far away are the town of Fort Williams, Britain’s highest mountain Ben Nevis and the Grampian area.

The excellent gondola lift does most of the work, taking thousands of visitors to the summit each year. The ski area covers a large part of the mountain’s slopes. Ben Nevis is one of the highest mountains in Britain, reaching 1,344 metres or 409 feet in height. It has a magnificent view of the Atlantic coast. Major tourist towns such as Fort William are only a few miles away and provide excellent accommodation for visitors to the resort. Although the modern day lift came into being not too long ago, the history of the resort goes back to the 1930s. That’s when enterprising locals started entertaining themselves by skiing down the mountains at Snowgoose, so named because the melting snow on the hillside was very similar in shape to a flying swan.

The ski resorts in Scotland are ideal for advanced skiers and snowboarders. The largest UK ski centre is in Aviemore, but there are also skiing opportunities in Glencoe, Nevis, Glenshee, Lecht and Nevis Range. Scotland’s popular ski resorts of Lecht and Glenshee are in the land of castles and whisky, allowing you to combine sporting activities with sightseeing and spirits tasting. A relaxing holiday in Scotland is an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Scottish outback, with its clear lakes, picturesque islands and heather-covered mountains.

For avid skiers who have missed out on skiing in the Alps, the British have made a real treat. In the English town of Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire a resort called Snow Centre is opening. The ski season starts on May 6. Tons of artificial snow and snow cannons will allow skiers to ski here even in summer. The local slope, the biggest in the UK, is 160 metres long. It is equipped with two modern ski lifts and everything you need for a comfortable skiing. The 100-metre long beginner’s slope is perfect for beginners. There is a shop on site that sells the most famous sports brands in the world. At the top of the slope is the EDGE restaurant, which offers a wide range of services. Here you can both have a cup of hot chocolate and celebrate a lavish birthday or an extremely successful descent.

Fox hunting – this pastime began so long ago that no one really knows where or how it first happened. The first written reference to the hunt of foxes by dogs dates back to the fourth century B.C., although there is plenty of circumstantial evidence to suggest that the practice was already several centuries old at the time. Alexander the Great, by the way, was an avid fan of fox-baiting, which is also recorded by historiographers. By the way, “fox” is also a kind of generalization. A hare, a coyote or even a steppe wolf can be the object of the hunt and still be referred to as “foxes”. At the same time, the English tradition requires the victim to be hunted down or, at the worst, shot. Not surprisingly, the traditionally sanctioned hunting greyhound is one of Britain’s most common breeds of dog. In early 2001 Parliament officially banned parfour hunting. Although the heated debate between humanists and supporters of this cruel pastime has not subsided to this day.

Cricket is a team sport (11 people each) with a ball and bats on an oval grass pitch (80×60-70m). The aim of the game is to destroy an opponent’s goal with the ball. Amateur cricket has the same rules as professional cricket. Normal amateur cricket takes place on the village lawn, an open area in the centre of the village. Cricket is played between two teams, a home team and a visiting team from another village.
